    It's a manganese-aluminum garnet that's prized for its orange colors. The manganese gives it a range of colors, from pale orange yellow to a dark red-orange.

    Spessartine is also known for its small crystals or bubbles.

    Spessartine is a member of the Garnet Group of minerals, which also includes: Almandine, Andradite, Grossular, Pyrope, Uvarovite.

    Spessartine's name comes from Spessart in Bavaria, Germany, where the mineral was first found. It's sometimes called spessartite.

    Spessartine is well regarded because of recent finds in Tanzania, China, and Pakistan. It can cost $100–$3,000 per carat.
