A yellow diamond engagement ring is rare because yellow diamonds are rare (GIA). Diamonds in the GIA Color grade D-to-Z range usually decrease in value as the color becomes more obvious. The opposite happens with fancy-color diamonds. Their value generally increases with the strength and purity of the color in Pink, Blue, Red, Yellow, Green Diamonds, more the Color and Clarity more the price. Because they are extremely rare.
Please be careful not all Fancy color Diamonds are natural in color. Everyday new techniques evolved to enhance the Color and Clarity. Well know technique called HPHT (high temperature high pressure) with this a white diamond can be colored in any color. So always check GIA report carefully. GIA leaves no speculations further as GIA can detect these treatments, and it identifies them in the GIA Colored Diamond Grading Report. It also laser Inscribes “HPHT PROCESSED” or “IRRADIATED” on the Girdle of Diamonds.
When a diamond falls outside of GIA’s D-to-Z color scale, it is considered a colored diamond (sometimes called a fancy-color diamond). This includes all colors other than colorless to light yellow or brown. On GIA Colored Diamond Grading Reports, colored diamonds are graded in order of increasing color strength, from Faint, Very Light, Light, Fancy Light and Fancy to Fancy Intense, Fancy Vivid, Fancy Dark and Fancy Deep. Fancy Intense and Fancy Vivid generally command higher prices.
